Life is a school, they say
And we are here to learn.
It’s not an exam to be passed
Or a competition to be won.
There’s one lesson
I’m taking a while to learn.
So it keeps coming back to me.
Different teachers, different classrooms.
The lesson?
Value yourself.
Honor the good within.
Focus on your own well-being.
I’m linking in to The Writers’ Post prompt given by Suzy Que here.
A very important lesson there, Corinne. They say that the most powerful relationship you ever have is the relationship with yourself. Love yourself, is the key! 🙂
Thanks, Shilpa. Yes, I know, I’ve learned it. But need revision now and then! 😉
“Value yourself” is an excellent lesson. Reminders are always welcome 🙂 It is right up there for me with the value of saying No. 😀
Thank you for a lovely read, Corinne.
Oh yes, it’s closely linked to saying ‘No’, Vidya. 🙂
Very beautifully put! Yes, that should be a lesson that everyone should be aware of!
Thanks a lot, Roshni. That’s a lesson I’m still learning, slowly!
That’s right Corinne…The well being of people around us begins with our well being and I seem to have always maintained that. ‘Value Yourself’ a great lesson indeed! Thanks for the reminder 🙂
I wrote this because I needed the reminder myself, Kajal. Thanks!
Life keeps on teaching us until we learn… Guess life is one stubborn teacher!
And loving yourself is the first and the best lesson learned!
Oh yes, we keep getting the same lesson until we get it right, Sheetal!
Exactly….for a happy and prosperous life we ought to respect ourselves first…nice way of putting your message across
Yes, self-respect should be an easy lesson to learn, but it’s taking time! Thanks for stopping by, Sheela.
Life is a full time informal school. And life lessons are a part of it. The failed lessons are a part of the lesson which we pass with flying colors. A valuable reminder.
I like your statement, Alka. Life is a full time informal school! You bet. 🙂
The last three lines are perfect ! thanks for reminding !!
Thanks so much, Janet. I needed the reminder myself.
its like an every day lesson which one has to keep revising 🙂
good one
Oh yes, I’m revising it all the time, Afshan.
Words to treasure.
Self-worth seems so lacking in people nowadays. They forget to value themselves, to cherish themselves…
Beautifully written 🙂
Thanks so much, Pix. Yes, I’m not sure why we forget ourselves in our effort to please others!
Value yourself – so true, we need to appreciate ourselves a bit more than we do. A good lesson.
Thanks, Suzy.
Great simple lesson, but a difficult one for me too.
Yes, you’d think we’d get the message immediately! But no, we keep allowing ourselves to be hurt.
The last four lines need to be framed in gold Corrine 🙂
Ah thanks, Sri. I certainly want to engrave them on my head! 😉
The poetry is so simple and again filled with a message so important. I wish all parents could narrate it as a precursor to preschool for setting the perfect tone of learning 🙂
Thanks a lot, Richa. I’m taking this as a compliment! 🙂
