Pablo’s Prayer

prayerfulpablo

I am reading too many stories of people abandoning their pets. That’s a horrible thing to do. If you can’t take care of them, please put them up for adoption. There are plenty of agencies and kind-hearted people around who will take over their care.

This is my prayer and prayer of all of us who are in your care:

Treat me kindly, my beloved master, for no heart in all the world is more grateful for kindness than the loving heart of me.

Do not break my spirit with a stick, for though I should lick your hand between the blows, your patience and understanding will more quickly teach me the things you would have me do.

Speak to me often, for your voice is the world’s sweetest music, as you must know by the fierce wagging of my tail when your footstep falls upon my waiting ear.

When it is cold and wet, please take me inside… for I am now a domesticated animal, no longer used to bitter elements… and I ask no greater glory than the privilege of sitting at your feet beside the hearth… though had you no home, I would rather follow you through ice and snow than rest upon the softest pillow in the warmest home in all the land… for you are my god… and I am your devoted worshiper.

Keep my pan filled with fresh water, for although I should not reproach you were it dry, I cannot tell you when I suffer thirst. Feed me clean food, that I may stay well, to romp and play and do your bidding, to walk by your side, and stand ready, willing and able to protect you with my life, should your life be in danger.

And, beloved master, should the Great Master see fit to deprive me of my health or sight, do not turn me away from you. Rather hold me gently in your arms as skilled hands grant me the merciful boon of eternal rest…and I will leave you knowing with the last breath I drew, my fate was ever safest in your hands.

  2. Guess, pets are like little children. They need to be loved and nourished and care for and they would always reciprocate with even warmer companionship. Nice poem.

  3. I join you in the prayer Pablo

  4. Everyone at my place love animals…and people around do not like that we feed stray cats. Can’t help what the others think or do…but, Pablo…you are such a sweetie pie and so are other animals like you. Just because we are humans does not make us any superior than you.

  5. Earnest prayer Pablo, you spoke from your heart .May you and your loving parents live a long ,happy life together.May all other pet parents follow what you have prayed for. Blessings and much love.

  10. This one’s so touching !!
Yep many get a pet home just as some one else has bought it . You should have that enthu and devotion to treat it as family

  11. To think people actually consider mistreating their faithful companions!
On a lighter note, Pablo truly looks like he’s in deep prayer, though I’m sure he’s just in deep sleep! 😀

  12. I totally agree, Pablo. I appreciate you telling my “god” a bit more about what we need as she hasn’t had a doggie before.

  13. That is such a beautiful and touching prayer. I have been wanting to get a puppy for several months now; however, I fear that the puppy would be so lonely (and probably feel abandoned) because we are away much of the time.

  14. What a beautiful prayer! I was so touched. Dogs are so faithful and devoted. I wonder what they see in humans. We’ve certainly done nothing to inspire such devotion.

  15. Very well said! 🙂

  18. I had a tear in my eye for even I have a beloved Dog (Jinny). The post reminded me of her every while. We love her a lot and so does she. But still reading this had made me sad.. I wish and pray that all the souls atleast get a shelter and care for that is what they deserve.
